Here at First Presbyterian of Alameda we believe that worship is the heart of the community of faith. Worship is open to all who want to experience the presence of God in their lives no matter where they are in their spiritual journey. Our historic building and the stained glass artwork convey a “warm reverence” in worship expressed through Word, sacrament, and song; recognizing that God is both holy, but also knows us by name.
Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of every month and it is an open table to anyone who believes and lives that Jesus Christ is Lord. Our music is blended, from traditional hymns to modern Christian music. We believe in the power of prayer and during the service we offer a time of when our prayers are shared and we pray for one another. We are rooted in the Presbyterian tradition, but knowing that God speaks to all churches.
People share their gift of music through both the adult and children’s choirs and also with a variety of special music throughout the year: the children’s Christmas pageant, Worship in the Park, and an annual “Celebrating Worship in Song” led by the choirs. Our love of God is expressed in variety of ways.
