Why We Worship

Here at First Presbyterian of Alameda we believe that worship is the heart of the community of faith. Worship is open to all who want to experience the presence of God in their lives, no matter where they are on their spiritual journey. Our historic building and the stained glass artwork convey a "warm reverence" in worship expressed through Word, sacrament, and song; recognizing that God is both holy and personal, calling each of us by name.

Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of every month and it is an open table to anyone who is baptized and believes that Jesus Christ is Lord. Our music is blended, from traditional hymns to modern Christian music. We believe in the power of prayer and during the service prayer requests are shared and we pray for one another. We are rooted in the Presbyterian tradition, and respect the practices of all Christian churches.

People share their gifts of music through the choir and also with a variety of special musical offerings throughout the year. Our love of God is expressed in a variety of ways, from leading the worship services to running the sound board to hosting the snacks at Fellowship Time.
